Raiders down Madrid in four sets

MAXWELL — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter volleyball team went up two sets to none against Madrid on Monday night and put the Tigers away in four games behind 20 kills and three aces from junior Brianda Bane.

The Raiders won the match 25-10, 25-19, 21-25, 25-19 to improve their overall record to 4-4 on the season.

“Madrid was scrappy and kept a lot of balls alive, and thankfully, our defense played very good, kept us in system and allowed us to get the ball set up for an effective hit,” CMB coach Scott Ranck said. “I am very proud of the girls tonight.”

Junior Jordynn Wesselink had 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces to compliment Bane, while senior Kathleen Baldwin delivered 28 assists and junior Sailor Hinegardner and senior Bekah Pearson each had 14 digs. Pearson added six kills.

Hinegardner was 19-of-20 in serves. Baldwin was 9-of-9 from behind the service line. Overall, the Raiders (4-4) were 81-of-95 with eight aces.

“We played very well tonight, but a couple of games we did not serve well,” Ranck said. “When that happened, we just had to work so much harder, as we gave away any momentum we were trying to build.”
