• Shay R. Vannoy, 25, of Monroe, was taken into custody the morning of Sept. 7 at 510 N. Sixth Ave. E. #1. He was wanted on Jasper County warrants for failure to appear in court on charges of driving while license suspended and failure to prove financial liability. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
• Ian D. McCandless, 23, of Newton, was stopped at about 3:35 a.m. Saturday in the 700 block of First Avenue East. It was discovered he had a Poweshiek County warrant for trespassing. He was taken to Jasper County Jail.
• James J. Huggins, 54, of Kellogg, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and consumption of alcohol in public. Newton Police were called to 723 E. Sixth St. S. in Newton regarding an unwanted guest at about 10:55 p.m. Wednesday. Huggins was standing in a hallway with an open bottle of whiskey. He had slow, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, with an odor of alcohol, and he refused to take an eye test. He had a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, in his pocket. He was taken to Jasper County Jail.
