National Public Lands Day is Saturday

The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge is looking for individuals or groups to volunteer by collecting native prairie plant seed during the Refuge’s observance of National Public Lands Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort on public lands. Last year, 175,000 volunteers celebrated across the country. The mission of the Refuge is to reconstruct tallgrass prairie and Oak Savanna. An important step towards accomplishing this mission is harvesting native prairie seed.

Registration is required. Contact Nancy Corona at 515/994-3400 or email Nancy_corona@fws.gov.
