‘Bats — Up Close and Personal’ event planned at NSNWR

Join the Jasper County Refuge staff and Russ Benedict, professor of biology at Central College in Pella, to learn about the wonders of bats at 6 p.m. Friday at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge.

Benedict will attempt to net the bats and then release them for scientific study. Participants will be able to view the captured bats.

Meet at the Prairie Learning Center (PLC) at 6 p.m. The group will travel to the netting site on a gravel road several miles from the PLC. From 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., families with children are welcome to come early to do a craft and make a bat button.

Register by calling 515-994-3400 or email Nancy_corona@fws.gov.
