C-M faces tough field at Grinnell

GRINNELL — The Colfax-Mingo cross country teams faced some stiff competition at the Grinnell Invitational at Ahrens Recreation Complex on Tuesday evening.

The Tigerhawk boys ran against three Class 3A ranked teams and another “team to watch,” while the girls took on the fourth-ranked team in 3A.

The end results put the Tigerhawks near the bottom of the team standings.

Senior Dakota Hostetter, who is ranked 18th in 1A, finished 14th overall with a time of 22 minutes, 14 seconds. Freshman Abbey McConeghey ended up 46th in 24:39, and Colfax-Mingo (345) finished 12th in the 16-team field.

Pella, ranked fourth in 3A, won the meet with 45 points. Belle Plaine, an SICL rival of C-M, was 10th with 319 points, while Lynnville-Sully (349) placed 14th and Montezuma (392) was 16th.

Sophomore Ilia Hostetter finished 91st overall with a time of 28:40, while the final two scoring runners were sophomore Mollie Greve in 96th and sophomore Payton Rhone in 98th.

The boys faced five ranked runners in the race. Senior Cameron Warner led the Tigerhawks with a 39th place finish. He crossed the line in 19:07.

The other scoring runners were freshman Cyden Fitch in 96th, senior KC Huffman in 97th, sophomore Nic Duffy in 98th and freshman Michael Loney in 101st.

Colfax-Mingo was 15th in the 16-team field with 431 points. The Tigerhawks bested Lynnville-Sully by 16 points. Grinnell, ranked third in 3A, won the meet with 38 points, while 3A No. 12 Carlisle (79) was next followed by Oskaloosa (116), 3A No. 8 Pella (130) and 4A Des Moines Lincoln (131).
