Hawks capture win over East Marshall

LE GRAND — Lynnville-Sully’s Hawks turned things around quickly after dropping the first set of Thursday’s non-conference match against host East Marshall.

The match didn’t go five sets, but the four the Hawks and Mustangs played were close. Lynnville-Sully evened its season’s record, 1-1, with a 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-19 victory.

“It was a big night. The girls fought hard for the win,” first-year Hawk head coach Jayme Deal said. “I feel like I played tonight, too, because it was super intense.”

Senior outside hitter Brenna Lanser pounded down 14 kills to lead the Hawk net game. She had one solo block and one assisted block. Camryn Russell, a junior middle blocker, put up one solo block and four block assists and delivered six kills at the net.

Lynnville-Sully was credited with nine solo blocks and 12 block assists against East Marshall. The Hawks racks up 31 kills in the match. Sophomore setter Carson Fisk put up 23 set assists for the Hawk attack.

Another factor in the win for Lynnville-Sully was serving. The Hawks missed only five serves, going 102-of-107 as team. Fisk was perfect at the service line, 28-of-28 with two service aces.

Lanser was 17-of-18 at the service line and had one ace while senior Jelissa Rozendaal was a perfect 12-of-12 with one ace. Russell finished at 17-of-19 on serves and junior McKinley Conover had one ace as she when 10-of-11 serving.

Junior Jataya Meyer went 9-of-9 serving with one ace, and junior Skyler Young was 7-of-8 with one service ace.

Lanser was credited with a team-high 35 digs in the four-set match. Jelissa Rozendaal had 25 digs, and Fisk had 24 digs. Russell dug the ball out 21 times and sophomore McKayla Rozendaal had 14 digs. Conover reached double digit with 13 digs.

Working at the net, Jelissa Rozendaal had four kills, three solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Fisk had two solo blocks, assisted blocks and two kills. Senior Makenzy Rozendaal had three kills, one solo block and one assisted block.

Senior Olivia Ritter had a solo block. Meyer had two assisted blocks and two kills. Young had one assisted block.

Lynnville-Sully is back in action Sept. 10 at the Twin Cedars tournament.
