Judy Kay Floss, 72, of Baxter, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the First Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Lutheran Church or the Gift of Life Transplant House may be left at the church the morning of the service or at the funeral home.

Judy, the daughter of William and Anna Marie (Vander Horst) Dunsbergen, was born Aug. 5, 1944, in Newton. She graduated from Colfax High School in 1962. Judy was united in marriage with Robert Floss Feb. 2, 1963, in Newton. They made their home on a farm south of Baxter. Judy worked for Newton Manufacturing, Vernon’s and as a receptionist for JD Koon before staying home to raise her two sons, Craig and Mark. Later she worked as a program technician for USDA Farm Service Agency in Newton, for 25 years, retiring in 2008. Judy was an active member of the First Lutheran Church serving on the Church Council, Good Cheer, Fellowship Committee and the First Friends Group. She was also the Women’s Chairman for the Jasper County Farm Bureau and a member of Neighborly Neighbors. Judy enjoyed decorating her home, gardening, flowers, camping, traveling, baking and cooking and playing card and board games. Most important to her though, was spending time with her family and friends.

Judy is survived by her husband, Robert Floss of Baxter; son, Craig (Karen) Floss of West Des Moines and their children, Brennan, Caleb and Keaton Floss; son, Mark Floss of Altoona and his children, Jarrett, Tristan and Jordan Floss; her two brothers, Earl (Vivian) Dunsbergen of Ankeny and Gary (Deb) Dunsbergen of Ira; and her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jean Burton; and brother, Dale Dunsbergen.
