• Newton Daily News will host a free community movie showing of “All the President’s Men” at 1 p.m. Friday at the Capitol II Theatre in Newton. All the President’s Men (1976) is an American political thriller about the The Washington Post investigation of the Watergate scandal starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. A 16 ounce pop and 32 ounce popcorn will be available for $3.

• Penny Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Jasper County Senior Citizens Center, 702 E. Third St. S. in Newton.

• Family Fun Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Salvation Army, 301 N. Second Ave. E. in Newton for family activities, food and fun.

• Summer Concert Series will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at Maytag Park. The concert will feature Faculty Lounge at the Maytag Bowl.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Free Movie “The Sandlot” will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Capital II Theatre, 116 First St. N. in Newton. These movies are free to the public. You may pick up your tickets at the Newton YMCA, United Way of Jasper County or Capitol II Theatre. For more information call 641-792-4006.

• Ice Cream Social will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Newton Public Library. Celebrate the end of summer reading with a free ice cream social. Enjoy live music, lawn games and a sundae bar. All ages welcome.

• Deep Dish Divas in concert will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Newton Public Library. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair to this outdoor concert on the library lawn. All are welcome.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will host a Back-to-school Celebration and Blessing of the Backpacks at its 10 a.m. service Aug. 21 at the church, 223 E. Fourth St. S. in Newton. Ice cream sundaes and cookies will following the service in Latham Hall at the church.
