St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will host a Back-to-school Celebration and Blessing of the Backpacks at its 10 a.m. service Aug. 21 at the church, 223 E. Fourth St. S. in Newton.
Many schools will begin their school year on Aug. 23. The Blessing of the Backpacks is to let local students and teachers know that the church honors an support this time of their life.
Ice cream sundaes and cookies will following the service in Latham Hall at the church.
