Police department upgrades Tasers with JCF grant

The Newton Police Department was recently honored as a recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Jasper Community Foundation.

Funding was requested for the purchase of four Taser electronic control devices for use by patrol officers. Tasers have a recommended five-year operational life and several of the department’s current units were beyond that milestone.

The new units have enhanced safety features and are ergonomically designed for better handling. Since implementing Tasers in 2007, the department has seen a decrease in offender and officer injuries resulting from fewer physical confrontations. The Newton Police Department appreciates the JCF’s support in making Newton a safe place to live.
