If you have a child that is going into kindergarten or is older than 4 years old, it is a requirement to get immunizations.

After age 4, children receive booster immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, chicken pox, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and polio. Most places such as Jasper County Health Department, offer vaccines as combination vaccines such as Proquad, also known as MMRV (Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella) and Kinrix which contains (Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis and Polio).

Diseases that used to be common in the country and around the world, including polio, measles, diptheria, pertussis (whooping cough), rubella(German Measles), mumps, tetanus, rotavirus, and Haemophilus influenza type b (Hib) can now be prevented by vaccination, according to cdc.gov.

Jasper County participated in the VFC (Vaccines for Children). The Vaccines for Children Program was created to help raise childhood immunization levels, especially among infants and young children. The VFC Program provides federally purchased vaccine for eligible children birth through 18 years of age at no cost to public and private health care providers throughout the state.

Children eligible to receive VFC provided vaccines include children enrolled in Medicaid, children who do not have health insurance and children who are American Indian or Alaskan Native.

In addition, children who have health insurance that does not cover the cost of vaccines are considered to be “underinsured,” and are eligible to be seen at federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), rural health clinics (RHCs) and public health facilities.

Jasper County Health Department will be giving kindergarten vaccinations on the following days. Call 641-787-9224 to schedule an appointment.
