Helen Marie Wade, 91, of Newton, died Monday, July 25, 2016, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 29 at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 28 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the Community Heights Alliance Church may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Helen, the daughter of Leslie “Buck” and Mary (McAtee) Bricker, was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1943. In 1943 and 1944, Helen worked for the Maytag Company. On March 24, 1944, Helen was united in marriage with LeRoy Wade in Newton. They lived in Newton, then made their home in California for one year and Colfax for five years before returning to Newton. Helen was a homemaker until 1973, when she began working as a CNA at Skiff Medical Center for 15 years. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at the Community Heights Alliance Church since 1952. Helen enjoyed winter road trips to the southwest part of the United States, camping, singing at churches around Iowa, and buying and selling antiques.

Those left to honor Helen’s memory are her sons, Sidney “Nip” (Sandi) Wade of Spokane, Wash., Leslie “Tuck” (Pam) Wade of Newton, Chris (Julie) Wade of Bettendorf and John (Rita) Wade of Rocky Mount, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; her 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy in 1999; two brothers, Richard and James Bricker; and a daughter-in-law, Laneta Wade in 1994.
