DUBUQUE — A man accused of killing his girlfriend last year in Dubuque is trying to keep statements from three police officers and a hospital nurse out of his trial.
Twenty-seven-year-old Eddie Hicks has filed a handwritten motion saying police coerced him into talking while Hicks was injured and under the influence of drugs in a hospital. He also objects to any statements made on a recorder allegedly left in his hospital room.
Hicks is charged with first-degree murder in the June 2015 stabbing death of 21-year-old Kahdyesha Lemon.
Hicks’ trial has been set for Aug. 30, which is likely to change to accommodate a psychiatric evaluation for him.
