NPL to host Star Wars party and adult coloring

Summer Reading for Adults

The Newton Public Library’s Summer Reading program has been a longtime favorite for local children, but did you know adults can get in on the fun too? Adult readers are invited to check out any three books or audiobooks through Aug. 26 to earn a free ticket to the movie of their choice at the Capitol II Theatre.

Smartphones for Beginners

Join our public services librarian at 11 a.m. Monday for an introduction to smartphone use. This small class is recommended for beginners and no experience is necessary. Attendees should bring their phones and charging cords. Registration is required and spaces are limited. Please call 641-792-4108 to register.

Pokémon Party & Safari

Pokémon trainers of all ages are invited to join us for a Pokémon party at the library on Monday. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a Pokémon safari for children. Participants will get a chance to visit the Pokémon gym locations around the downtown square on a guided tour. Wear your Pokémon costumes or clothing. The safari will also make some special stops at downtown businesses to refuel with treats. Children under age 11 should bring along an adult to accompany them on the safari. After the safari, we will return for snacks, crafts, and time to play Pokémon at the Library. Teens and adults are also invited to stop in for a snack, and to register for a prize drawing for Capitol II Theatre tickets. Hang out from 1 to 2:30 p.m. to take advantage of a special Pokémon lure module, which attracts more Pokémon to the area. Please call 641-792-4108 to register.

Dan Wardell's
Reading Road Trip

Join Iowa Public Television’s Dan Wardell on his Reading Road Trip. On Thursday children of all ages are invited to listen to Dan’s fantastic storytelling at either 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Wear your superhero cape just like Dan and be sure to bring your camera. This program will be held outdoors on the library lawn and lawn chairs or blankets are encouraged. No registration required.

Summer Reading Pool Party

Turn in your youth Summer Reading book log by July 29 to receive your ticket for the pool party that evening at Maytag Park. This party is a reward for children who have finished the summer reading program, and attendees must have a ticket to enter. Domino’s pizza will be served at 6:30 p.m., and swimming runs from 7 to 9 p.m.
