Newton High has youth football and volleyball camps are scheduled for next week. Also, Newton High student-athletes and their parents are reminded to obtain the 2016-17 participation packets.
As summer winds down, gears are being shifted to the fall sports seasons.
First, the 2016-17 NHS participation packets for all sports are available in the NHS main office. The packets have forms to be filled out and signed before student-athletes are allowed to practice and participate in athletics. The packets need to be turned into the main office before Aug. 1.
Football camps
A three-day football camp for boys in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades begins Monday at H.A. Lynn Stadium. There are two age-group sessions per day.
Boys entering third or fourth grade this fall will be in the first session each day from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The second session is from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for boys entering fifth and sixth grade this fall.
The 2016 Newton Cardinal Lineman/DB football camp is Monday through Wednesday for all boys entering seventh grade through 12th grade this fall. The skill and technique camp for offensive and defense lineman and defensive backs is at H.A. Lynn Stadium.
The middle school sessions will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The high school sessions are from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Cost of the each camp is $25 per camper or $40 for two or more boys from the same family. Participants may register at the door on Monday, 15 minutes prior to their respective camp session. They should report to the NHS varsity locker room on the south end of the football stadium.
These are all non-contact skills camp conducted by Newton High head football coach Ed Ergenbright along with present and past Cardinal varsity players.
Shorts, T-shirt and football or running shoes should be worn by participants. Water will be provided to the players during camp sessions.

Volleyball camp
Newton High’s youth volleyball camp is July 21-22 at Newton High School’s gym. It is a volleyball skills camp for girls entering fifth through eighth grade this fall.
Cost of the camp is $30. Camp sessions are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
The camp is conducted by new NHS head volleyball coach Ashley Carter. It is designed to provide individual attention to participants from the high school coaches and current Cardinal volleyball players on improving individual and team skills.
To maximize the volleyball camp experience, participants will be divided into small groups based on skill testing and will work closely with group members and coaches.
