• Concerts in the Park will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Maytag Bowl at Maytag Park in Newton. The Newton Municipal Band will give a concert sponsored by Newton Parks and Recreation.

• Jasper County Fair begins Friday at Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax.

• Photo Hike will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. This program is free and open to the public. Participants will meet outside the Prairie Learning Center at 8 a.m. for a brief orientation, including an overview of some common summer flowers and wildlife that might be seen.

• Sensory Friendly Movie “The Secret Life of Pets” will begin at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Capital II Theatre, 116 First St. N. in Newton. Individuals with special needs and their families are invited. • Dino O’Dell in Concert will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Newton Public Library, 100 N 3rd Ave. W in Newton. Dino O’Dell, of Kansas City, is on a national tour. His music and storytelling will introduce kids to a cowboy and a space alien (and sneak in a little math and learning as well). Kids ages 2 to 10 will love this concert. No registration required.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• Prairie Night Hike will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge for a guided nature hike and learn all about the secrets of the prairie at night. The topic for this hike will be “Secrets of the Prairie Night.” Those participating will be looking, listening and learning firsthand about the nocturnal wildlife on the prairie. • Jasper County Fair continues Sunday at Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax.

• Kids Corner at the Jasper County Fair will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at Jasper County Fairgrounds in Colfax. This will be an event for parents and child care providers to bring children to the fair to do a craft activity in the 4-H building at the Jasper County Fair. Contact Carol Camp at 641-792-5437. Registration fee: $50.

• Narcotics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.
