Pink Floyd fans to be treated to rocking experience at Brit Floyd concert

The Des Moines Civic Center will be transformed into a Pink Floyd concert on Sunday when the tribute group Brit Floyd takes the stage.

Brit Floyd concert-goers will be treated to a true Pink Floyd experience thanks to a state-of-the-art million dollar light and video show while listening to some of the group’s greatest hits like “Comfortably Numb,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Another Brick in the Wall.”

Leading Brit Floyd on guitar and vocals is Damian Darlington, who started the group more than five ago. Darlington is a long-time fan of Pink Floyd’s music, and prior to starting Brit Floyd toured with another Pink Floyd tribute band for 17 years.

"We try to recreate a Pink Floyd show on as large of a scale as we can," said Darlington, who started playing guitar as a young teenager. "There is a level of detail we put into things with the light show, videos and a huge amount of attention to detail to have the show put on correctly."
That attention to detail has been bringing Pink Floyd and classic rock fans to Brit Floyd concerts from Spain to France, London to the U.S. Darlington said the group has noticed the crowds get younger and younger with each world tour.

“A lot of people in the crowd were around when their first albums came out, but now there is a whole new generation that wants to experience (Pink Floyd),” he said. “People are bringing their children and now their grandchildren to experience it and enjoy the music.”

With playing some of the world’s most recognizable tunes, Darlington said there is a certain amount of pressure the band feels when taking the stage.

“There is a little bit of pressure on yourself but we just try harder. We take the music very seriously,” Darlington said. “I’m proud of what Brit Floyd has done. I take pride in what we do.”

That pride shows during Brit Floyd shows which features Pink Floyd staples as well as more obscure tracks from the rock group’s five decades of music. Darlington said Brit Floyd’s video and light show really brings the Pink Floyd music to life.

“Our show brings a level of immersion of all senses,” he said.  “Pink Floyd is known for putting on large-scale multimedia concerts. They were really a pioneer at that sort of thing. We are very passionate about the music and what we do.”

Catch Darlington and his Brit Floyd band mates on stage at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Des Moines Civic Center. Tickets are available starting at $32 each at DesMoinesPerformingArts.org, the Civic Center Ticket office or by calling 800-745-3000.

“If people love Plink Floyd music they should come and enjoy two and half hours of Pink Floyd songs, amazing light show, videos and if there is room a large inflatable pig,” Darlington said.
