Stephen A. Haunsperger

Stephen Andrew “Haunzy” Haunsperger, 61, of Newton died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Pella Comfort House. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to the Stephen Haunsperger Memorial Scholarship, Pella Comfort House, or the Kellogg Historical Society may be left at the funeral home.

Stephen, the son of Jerome and Audrey (Pease) Haunsperger, was born on Oct. 7, 1954 in Grinnell. He attended Kellogg Elementary School and graduated from Newton High School in 1972. He then graduated from DMACC in 1974 and began a 40 year career as a HVAC technician. Stephen worked for the Maytag Company for 28 years and then spent the next 12 years working at York, Johnson Controls and lastly at Baker Group, all in Des Moines.

Stephen was a member of the Iowa State Bowling Association, Newton Men’s Baseball and Slow Pitch Softball Leagues, and the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33. He enjoyed trivia, music, golfing, bowling, traveling, camping, puzzles and spending time with friends and family.

Stephen was survived by his wife, Cindy; stepdaughter, Carissa (Nick) Wadding; grandsons, Carter and Evan; brothers, Michael (Julie) and Richard (Janie); three nephews, Zachary, Matthew, and Jacob; one niece, Katie; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
