Tigerhawk rally falls short at Central Decatur

LEON — The Colfax-Mingo baseball team rallied back from two different deficits against Central Decatur on Thursday night.

Unfortunately for the Tigerhawks, they couldn’t muster enough hits in the final inning to rally for a third time.

Central Decatur had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 and then plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take its final lead of the game during a 6-5 victory over the Tigerhawks.

Colfax-Mingo tied the Cardinals (18-11) in the third inning when senior Gabe Simpson singled and then scored on senior Jacob Buehrer’s RBI triple.

Buehrer made it 2-all when he scored on freshman Zarek Hill’s RBI single.

Sophomore Misha Seebeck had three hits in the game. His final hit was a bases-clearing, three-run double to give Colfax-Mingo its only lead of the game in the sixth inning.

Before Seebeck’s go-ahead double, sophomore Jonathan Jacobs walked, eighth-grader Trystin Ross singled and Simpson reached on an error.

Central Decatur, which has won three straight games and eight of its last 10, took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth in part because of a walk and an error by Colfax-Mingo.

Hill finished with two hits in the loss for the Tigerhawks, who dropped to 14-14 on the season.

Ross (2-1) took the loss on the mound. He relieved Buehrer in the first inning and went the rest of the way, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings.

The Tigerhawks can finish the regular season above .500 with a win over Woodward-Granger at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Colfax-Mingo begins Class 1A postseason play at 5 p.m. Tuesday in St. Marys.

The Tigerhawks face South Iowa Cedar League rival Lynnville-Sully.
