• Penny Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Jasper County Senior Citizens Center, 702 E. Third St. S. in Newton.

• Baxter Fun Days will begin at noon on Friday in Baxter. A full schedule of events is available on the Baxter Fun Days’ Facebook page and on the City of Baxter’s website at baxter-iowa.com/residents.

• Bethany Fun Days Supper will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at Baxter School West Commons, in Baxter. Bethany UCC will be serving its annual Fun Days Supper of pork sandwiches, beef burgers, German and regular potato salad, baked beans dessert bars, ice cream and drinks.

• Thunder Nites will meet at 6 p.m. Friday at Downtown Square, in Newton. Second Friday of the Month. Featured performer is Abby Normal.

• Garden Club Meeting will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Deep Rock Station Gardens, in Sully. The Garden Thyme Club meets the second Saturday each month. Visitors and new members are always welcome. You need not be an “expert” - we are just a group of individuals that enjoy flowers and gardening. Meetings are normally held at the Deep Rock Station Gardens or at the Coffee Cup Cafe during the winter months. Come and join us. Contact the City Clerk at 594-3493 for more information

• The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Grinnell Chapter will meet at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Centre for Arts and Artists, 501 W. Third St., Newton. Hostesses will be Barb Hug and Jan Cruchelow. The program will be the Freedom Flight.

• Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 223 E. Fourth St. N. in Newton.

• Peer Support for those living with mental illness will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday at Optimae Life Services, 1730 First Ave. E. in Newton.

• Discovery Hike will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Neal Smith NWR in Prairie City. A Nature Discovery Walk will be along the half mile, paved Overlook Trail loop. The group will learn about wildlife, wildflowers and management of the Refuge.

• ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday at Iowa Speedway, 3333 Rusty Wallace Drive in Newton. The 150-lap ARCA race will serve as the preamble to the next day’s IndyCar Series Iowa Corn 300.

• LoCash will perform following the race on Saturday at Iowa Speedway, 3333 Rusty Wallace Drive in Newton.

• Winged Wonders will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Neal Smith NWR in Prairie City. Children ages 6-10 are invited to bring their favorite adult and join a refuge naturalist to become a scientist for a day

• Verizon IndyCar Series Iowa Corn 300 will begin at 4:40 p.m. Sunday at Iowa Speedway, 3333 Rusty Wallace Drive in Newton.
