Appreciative for ALICE training

The Baxter Early Learning Center recently experienced ALICE training, courtesy of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department. Through an expedient coordination with Sheriff John Halferty, a Saturday training session was made available to our teachers and administration. For those of you unfamiliar with the ALICE training, it is civilian response training for all organizations, providing more safe and strategic methods against an active shooter event and violence in the work place. ALICE is an acronym for the components of the program’s contents, “Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.”

The education and safety of our children and staff are our very highest priorities. This training provided the much needed information, pause for reflection, hands on response practices and suggestions we were hoping for to elevate our facility to an all new level of service for our parents. We were walked through the mental and physical exercises necessary to avoid being victims and came away enlightened.

We at the Baxter Early Learning Center wish to extend our sincerest thanks to our local law enforcement for their work and dedication. The enthusiasm and approach of Jasper County Deputies Duane Rozendaal and Jeremy Burdess, accompanied by Baxter Police Chief Rick Nichols, met our needs as well as informed and empowered our people.
