PCM falls to 3A No. 5 Pella

PELLA — The Prairie City-Monroe baseball team couldn’t keep up with the state-ranked Pella Dutch on Tuesday night.

The Mustangs and Pella were tied at 2-all after two innings, but Class 3A No. 5 Pella put up three more crooked numbers and won 12-2 in six innings.

PCM collected just six hits at the plate and dropped to 10-17 on the season.

Senior Austin Brown had two hits to lead the Mustangs. Senior Tyler Foster had one hit, one run and one RBI, sophomore Noah Henkenius scored a run and had one steal, while junior Noah Clark collected a hit and stole a base.

Freshman Preston Van Wyk, who had one hit and one RBI at the plate, started on the mound and tossed the first two innings. He allowed two earned runs on two hits with two walks.

Freshman Brayton Van Dyke took the loss though after surrendering six runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout. Senior Clay Cooper pitched the final inning, allowing four runs on six hits.

Pella (24-8) won for the seventh time in its last nine games.

PCM returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lynnville-Sully.
