Newton Police Department

• Ethan D. Vanderleest, 34, of Prairie City, was arrested on a Dallas County warrant after authorities pulled over a vehicle he was traveling in at 7:24 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of South Eighth Avenue West and West Seventh Street South. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Shannen L. VanSice, 35, of Baxter, is charged with domestic abuse assault after authorities were called at 9:36 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of East Fifth Street North. Officers spoke with the victim who said that VanSice slapped him. VanSice admitted to slapping the victim. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Nicole A. Brooks, 22, of Des Moines, is charged with driving while license under suspension after authorities pulled her over at 2:46 a.m. Friday at the intersection of First Avenue West and West Fourth Street South. She was cited and released to appear.

• Tina R. Wright, 39, of West Des Moines, is charged with driving while license under suspension after authorities pulled her over at 7:24 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of South Seventh Avenue West and West Seventh Street South. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Stan R. Hopwood, 49, of Newton, is charged with driving while license under suspension after authorities pulled him over at 1:58 a.m. Sunday on First Avenue East. He was cited and released to appear.

• Kristen E. Mitchell, 44, of Newton, is charged with consumption/intoxication in public places after authorities were called at 1:04 p.m. Sunday to 326 W. 11th St. N. Officers were called about a woman with a child laying on the ground. They found Mitchell with the child. She smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on her feet and had slurred speech and glassy watery eyes. While on the scene, she fell backwards, falling into the child. She admitted to drinking and said she was drunk. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office

• Allie J. King, 26, of Newton, is charged with second-degree and third-degree burglary after authorities were called at 6:50 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of East Sixth Street North. Officers were called about a burglary and were told by a neighbor that a man and woman were attempting to get into a residence. Officers spoke with the residents following the incident and found a Colt Mustang .380 pistol had been stolen. Officers were called to a second residence where a break in took place. There, officers found a backpack that contained items that were identified as the first victim’s property. She was taken to the Jasper County Jail.

• Brent L. Skinner, 51, of Newton, is charged with assault on persons in certain occupations and third-degree harassment after authorities were called at 9:47 p.m. Friday to 2467 Highway F48 West. Officers were told Skinner had called 911 and stated “You are going to die” and he had a knife. When officers arrived at the residence, Skinner came at the officers in a threatening manner and had to be restrained. He was found to have a BAC of .284. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
