Tigerhawk softball rolls past Royals in regular-season finale

MCALLSBURG — Leading 5-2 after five innings, the Class 1A 11th-ranked Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks had control of the non-conference softball game Friday against host Colo-NESCO.

The Tigerhawks’ seven-run sixth put the game away. The game ended when Colfax-Mingo retired the Royals in their half of the sixth for a 12-2 win.

Rhiannon Haley and Ries Wilson hammered out their fifth home runs of the season during the game. Haley, who also had a single, connected for a solo shot with one gone in the third to put the Tigerhawks up 4-0. Wilson’s was a leadoff solo home run in the fifth.

Back-to-back doubles by Amy Russell and Aliva Haley produced the Tigerhawks’ first run in the first inning. Two Royals’ errors allowed Colfax-Mingo to score twice in the second innings.

Colo-NESCO used two singles to produce two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Royals scored on a stolen base against the Tigerhawks.

Colfax-Mingo responded by taking advantage of three more Royals’ errors in the sixth. They had singles by Chelsea Russell, Mackensie Brown, Rhiannon Haley, Colbee Cunningham and Braedynn Rawlins and a RBI double by Brown in the inning.

Amy Russell was the winning pitcher. She allowed four hits, walked two and struck out five.

Brown had a single and a double and Rhiannon Haley had a single and a home run. Rawlins hit two singles. Wilson homered. Amy Russell and Alivia Haley each had a double. Cunningham and Chelsea Russell had a single apiece.

Colfax-Mingo (22-9) opens Class 1A Region 6 play at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Melcher-Dallas in Colfax.
