No. 13 CMB notches win in quick fashion

COLLINS — Four innings of work was all Class 3A 13th-ranked Collins-Baxter/Maxwell’s Raider girls needed Friday night.

The Raider softball team recorded its 22nd victory with a 12-0 decision over visiting Ogden to wrap up the regular season.

CMB (22-8) hosts Prairie City-Monroe’s Mustangs in a 7 p.m. Class 3A Region 7 contest in Collins.

“We exploded with a 12-0 four-inning win in which all of our starters had at least one hit,” CMB head coach Troy Houge said.

CMB used a 16-hit attack against Ogden. Abbey Kahler limited Ogden to one hit and struck out five in four innings of work.

The Raiders opened their regular-season finale by scoring twice in the first inning and one in the second inning. CMB cranked out three home runs in a five-run third inning and ended the game in the fourth by scoring four runs.

Kahler doubled to begin the third inning and scored on a two-run home run by Payge Jurgens. Mikayla Eslinger connected for a solo home run as the next better for the Raiders. With Hannah Caple on base with a single, Holly Jessen delivered her first career home run.

Jessen and Jurgens each had three hits in the game including two-run home runs. Jurgens had two singles while Jessen hit a double and a single. Kahler delivered two doubles and Caple had two singles.

Eslinger doubled and homered. Houge hit a double while Katie Camp, Jordynn Wesselink and Megan Ritter each had a single.
