Lynnville-Sully teams win SICL finales

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s baseball and softball teams notched one-run wins at home against HLV Wednesday. The Hawk baseball team claimed a 5-4 win and the Hawk softball team posted a 4-3 victory as both Lynnville-Sully teams gave up all the runs to the HLV squads in the seventh innings.

It closed out South Iowa Cedar League conference play for the Lynnville-Sully teams. The Hawk softball squad is 9-6 for third in the SICL ranks and 14-15 overall. In the SICL baseball standings, the Hawk boys are 13-3 for second place and stand at 14-7 overall.

Lynnville-Sully senior Kasiah Ehresman is making history every time she steals a base. On Saturday, Ehresman stole her 200th career base against BCLUW at the Marshalltown softball tournament.

Ehresman tacked on two more stolen bases in Wednesday’s win over HLV to push her career total to 204. According to Jason Eslinger, Assistant Director at the Iowa Girls High School Union, Ehresman is the seventh player in state history to record 200 career stolen bases.

Ehresman hit two singles in Wednesday’s home game and scored two runs. Lynnville-Sully used the middle innings to score four runs — one each in the third and fifth frames and two in the fourth.

Makenzy Rozendaal hit two singles for the Hawk girls. Brenna Lanser doubled and Carson Fisk singled.

Fisk was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game. She gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out one.

Lynnville-Sully’s baseball team scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second. The Hawks carried a 5-0 lead into the seventh, when it gave up four runs.

Elijah Collins got the pitching victory. Collins allowed three runs on four hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings of work. Josh Dunsbergen notched the save as he pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up one run on one hit and one walk and striking one out.

Caden Dunsbergern hit two singles and Dylan Rozenboom doubled. Hitting a single each were Tyler Van Zante and Carson Dunsbergen.

Lynnville-Sully’s softball team finishes the regular season at Friday’s Carlisle tournament. It hosts Southeast Warren at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Class 1A Region 6 play.

The Hawk baseball team plays a 6 p.m. non-conference game Tuesday at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
