District pairings set for area 1A, 2A prep baseball teams

Collins-Maxwell/Baxter’s baseball team will host two Class 2A playoff baseball games, while Lynnville-Sully and Colfax-Mingo will do battle for a third time when the 1A postseason begins.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the district playoff brackets for 1A and 2A teams Wednesday.

CMB (9-9) hosts a doubleheader in Collins as the No. 3 seed in 2A District 13.

The Raiders host Heart of Iowa Conference rival and sixth-seeded South Hamilton (4-12) in the 7 p.m. nightcap on July 9.

Before that, HOIC representative and fourth-seeded Prairie City-Monroe (9-15) gets a second crack at fifth-seeded West Marshall (18-8) at 5 p.m. The Trojans defeated PCM 11-8 in the championship game of the Rose Festival tournament on June 18.

CMB and South Hamilton split their season series in HOIC play. The Raiders won the most recent meeting 7-3 in Collins.

The winners of those games advance to the district semifinals on July 12 at Roland-Story. The CMB-South Hamilton winner meets second-seeded Des Moines Christian (17-8) at 5 p.m. The PCM-West Marshall victor gets fifth-ranked and top-seeded Roland-Story (23-6) a 7 p.m.

The district final is at 7 p.m. on July 16 at Roland-Story.

Lynnville-Sully (13-6) and Colfax-Mingo (11-11) will face each other in the quarterfinals of the 1A District 13 tournament. That game will be played at 5 p.m. on July 12 at Martensdale-St. Marys.

It’s the first game of a doubleheader. Ninth-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys (19-8) meets the winner of Iowa Christian (8-9) and Melcher-Dallas (4-13) at 7 p.m.

The L-S/C-M winner faces either Martensdale-St. Marys, Melcher-Dallas or Iowa Christian Academy in the district semifinals at 7 p.m. on July 14 at Martensdale-St. Marys. The district final is 7 p.m. on July 16 at 7 p.m.

The Hawks and Tigerhawks have played two South Iowa Cedar League games this season. Lynnville-Sully defeated Colfax-Mingo, 6-4, in the season opener in Colfax then rallied to beat the Tigerhawks, 4-3, in the most recent meeting in Sully on June 20.
