Local Medicaid fraud trial postponed

A Newton man accused of creating false Medicaid records waived his right to a speedy trial this week, postponing the court date.

Steven A. Sholley, 51, is charged with second-degree fraudulent practice and tampering with records for acts he allegedly committed between February and September 2015.

Sholley is accused of working with another person to submit false documentations for services not provided. Those records were used in billing the state of Iowa nearly $4,000 for false Consumer Directed Attendant Care/Medicaid services.

Sholley was investigated by the State of Iowa, Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and was charged in February. A new trial date had not been set by presstime.
