Tigerhawk baseball can’t find way out of current losing streak

COLFAX — The Colfax-Mingo baseball team was 10-5 after a 5-2 win over Prairie City-Monroe on June 14.

Since that victory and season sweep of the Mustangs, the Tigerhawks have been on a slide.

Friday’s 7-3 loss to BGM, the South Iowa Cedar League’s best team, was Colfax-Mingo’s sixth consecutive loss.

The two teams were tied at 1-all after one, and the Tigerhawks held a 2-1 lead after two. BGM though rallied with a four-run third and never trailed again, scoring two more in the sixth.

It was the fifth straight for the Bears, who are now 18-5 overall and leading the SICL at 13-1.

Colfax-Mingo is now 7-8 in SICL play.

The Tigerhawks have played since June 4 without ace pitcher Jonathan Jacobs and key starter Jarrod Nichols.

They get those two players back for the stretch run, but Colfax-Mingo has fallen into the No. 5 seed of 1A District 13.

Colfax-Mingo had just four hits against BGM.

The Tigerhawks collected only two hits in an 8-1 loss to 2A Pella Christian (15-10) on Thursday and lost a 3-1 lead during a 9-3 loss to HLV (7-10, 6-8) on Wednesday.

The Tigerhawks look to right the ship at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Colfax against former conference rival Collins-Maxwell/Baxter (9-8).
