Quality facilities important for kids, community

This September, voters will go to the polls to vote on the bond issue to build a new 5-8 middle school. As a parent and teacher, I recognize the importance of having quality facilities to provide a safe environment for learning. Not only will a new building allow for a safer environment through meeting current building and fire codes but also through door access capabilities and cameras. In addition to the safety enhancements, the energy efficiency will be greatly increased allowing for better heating, air and ventilation systems.

As someone who takes pride in our community, I want to see our children and teachers have great facilities that will enhance the learning environment. My son is currently a student at Berg Middle School. I want him, and all students, have the best opportunity to be successful. We need to look into the future and be progressive.

I have had the pleasure to work with students and teachers at Berg while performing the duties of my job. These interactions have given me the opportunity to see the aging of the school. What I have seen has created a belief that our community needs to act. It is important that members of the community take an active role in the process which impacts all of us. We have great teachers and staff that can share valuable insight into possible needs for this facility.

The approval of this bond would provide a great learning environment for our children for years to come. Please join me in getting involved in this process and making a difference for our children, vote Tuesday, Sept.13.
