Laborshed project continues in Jasper County

The Newton Development Corporation is continuing to work with Iowa Workforce Development’s Regional Research Bureau to complete a Laborshed employment study for the Jasper County area.

This study will examine the labor force from which Jasper/Newton area employers attract their employees and is based upon documented commuting patterns into the area. The study will assist existing and potential businesses understand the size and characteristics of the area’s labor force.

A confidential telephone surveys is currently being conducted in identified areas. The calls originate out of Cedar Rapids, therefore, the incoming number will have a 319 area code.

Questions will cover topics such as: employment status, current and desired wages, current and desired benefits, education level and type of occupation. Survey results will be applied to Census data to determine the size of the labor force within the Jasper County Laborshed area commuting area while also providing information regarding the characteristics of the workforce. Iowa Workforce Development will not be asking survey takers any identifiable information such as: name, social security number or date of birth. Survey calls will continue into specific areas until necessary survey levels are met.
