• Siobhan N. Foster, 32, of Newton, is charged with operating while under the influence, first-degree harassment, two counts of assault on person in a certain occupations and interference with official acts after authorities were called at 6:44 p.m. June 10 to the 800 block of South Second Avenue West. Officers were called about an unwanted person and found Foster. Officers spoke with her and she said she was there to pick up some things. She said she had not driven there, but witnesses said they saw her drive up. She smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and was swaying. She admitted to drinking earlier in the day and also taking a Xanax. While officers were there her mood changed several times. She would yell at officers and refused to cooperate. While at the jail she hit a jailer in the face and attempted to hit another jailer.

• Joseph E. Simmons, 25, of Newton, is charged with controlled substance violation and possession of drug paraphernalia after authorities were called at 10:51 p.m. June 14 to 1022 E. 12th St. N. Officers were called about a noise complaint and found Simmons. Officers could smell marijuana coming from the residence and asked to search the residence. Simmons denied the request until a warrant was obtained. Once in the residence, officers found pipes, a box of baggies and a digital scale along with marijuana. He was taken to the Jasper County Jail.
