Filter-clogging hair jeopardizing doggie dip

MASON CITY — Dog hair — and lots of it — may be jeopardizing the annual doggie dip at the Mason City Aquatic Center.

The city Parks and Recreation Board was advised Tuesday to discontinue the event because of the $3,000 to $4,000 cost of cleaning the pool’s filters.

Recreation Superintendent Brian Pauly said the pool water appeared cloudy this year, although it tested free of harmful bacteria or other contaminants.
