CMB’s Kahler twirls perfect game

NEVADA — The Collins-Maxwell/Baxter softball team bounced back perfectly from a tough loss Tuesday night against North Polk.

Junior Abbey Kahler tossed a perfect game and struck out 13 in the circle as the Raiders improved to 8-2 in Heart of Iowa Conference play following an 8-0 shutout against Nevada on Wednesday.

Kahler also had three hits and three RBIs at the plate for CMB, which is now 12-4 on the season.

“Abbey Kahler was in the zone tonight,” CMB coach Troy Houge said. “There were two fly balls to the outfield in the seventh inning, but nothing else left the infield in the game.”

Junior Mikayla Eslinger had two hits, two RBIs and two steals at the plate for the Raiders, while junior Megan Ritter collected two hits, scored two runs and stole two bases in her first game back from the school’s annual Mission’s trip.

Junior Heather Jessen, sophomore Katie Camp and eighth-graders Mikayla Houge and Holly Jessen all had one hit in the win.

The Raiders continue their busy week at 7 p.m. Thursday at Class 2A No. 9 Van Meter. They Greene County at 7 p.m. Friday.
