Tigerhawks blow past Thunder before lightning

COLFAX — Lightning once again played a factor in Colfax-Mingo’s softball game against Grand View Christian on Tuesday.

The first game between the two teams was suspended because of weather back in May and Tuesday’s regularly scheduled game was suspended with the game tied in the fourth inning.

Before weather played a factor, the Tigerhawks managed to blow past the Thunder, 14-1, in a non-conference affair.

Leading 3-1 when the game resumed, Colfax-Mingo improved to 13-6 after plating six in the third and five more in the fifth to end the contest early.

The Tigerhawks had 12 hits and walked seven times in the win.

Sophomore Ries Wilson led the offense with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and a walk. Sophomore Rhiannon Haley and freshman Braedynn Rawlins each had two hits, too.

Rawlins scored twice and drove in two runs, while freshman Reghan Robinette walked twice and scored twice. Junior Amy Russell scored three runs, and freshman Colbee Cunningham recorded two RBIs.

Russell finished off her win in the circle. She surrendered an unearned run on four hits and struck out four while walking three.

The originally scheduled game was tied at 3-all when the game was suspended in the fourth inning due to lightning.

Russell hit her third home run of the season in the third inning to give C-M a 3-1 advantage.

The Tigerhawks host Iowa Valley in South Iowa Cedar League action at 6 p.m. Friday.
