Old-fashioned barn dance Saturday

The Newton Barn Dance will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Park at the corner of North First Street and North 19th Avenue East in Newton.

A potluck meal will begin at 6 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring an item to share. The event will be an old-fashioned barn dance with an evening of food, fun and friends with live music for circles, squares, contras, reels and mixers. This one will have a twist or two.

Wild Mustard is playing great tunes with Mary Sand-fiddle, Josiah Janacek-banjo and Benjamin Sander-guitar and Reid Miller is serving up and calling festive dances. The event is alcohol free. Everyone welcome and all families are invited. No partner is necessary.

Cost will be $5 for students and $10 adults. A family will only have to pay a $30 maximum. Donations are welcome to cover shelter rental and promotion, band and caller expenses. Babies and toddlers are free. As a special request, attendees are asked to refrain from wearing fragrances or scented products. Bring your reusable water bottle for hydration.
