Mustang baseball gets walk-off win

PRAIRIE CITY — Senior Austin Brown stayed unbeaten on the mound, and junior Ryan Hill delivered his second game-winning hit of the season as the Prairie City-Monroe baseball team defeated Greene County, 3-2, in Heart of Iowa Conference play on Monday.

Brown struck out 11, scattered six hits and gave up two unearned runs in the seventh inning. He is now 4-0 on the season with an earned run average of 1.88. Brown has 30 strikeouts and just four walks on the season.

After the Rams (3-8 overall, 1-6 in the HOIC) tied the game in their final at-bat, Hill came through with the walk-off hit.

Hill had two hits in the game, including a double, while junior Braden Phifer improved his season batting average to .364 with another two hits. Phifer also had two RBIs in the win.

Seniors Clay Cooper and Tyler Foster both had one run and one hit, freshman Brayton Van Dyke and sophomore Noah Henkenius each had a hit and junior Sheldon Speers scored a run as a courtesy runner.

PCM (6-8, 5-4) out-hit the Rams 8-6 in the game, but Greene County tied it in the seventh with the help of Mustang miscues.

The Mustangs had three errors in the game.

PCM hosts Colfax-Mingo (9-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
