Lynnville-Sully squads fall to West Marshall

STATE CENTER — Lynnville-Sully’s softball and baseball teams came up on the short end of non-conference decisions against host West Marshall Tuesday.

The Hawk girls built an 8-1 lead over West Marshall following a seven-run second inning. The Trojans roared back to tie the game with four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning.

West Marshall’s Brooke Snider opened and closed the game the same way for her team. She hit a solo home run in the first to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead then connected again for a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 win over the Hawks.

Lynnville-Sully senior Kasiah Ehresman added two more stolen bases to her season total of 31. Ehresman is second in stole bases in Class 1A.

Brenna Lanser singled twice for the Hawk girls and Krisen Van Der Wilt had a double. Hitting a single each were Ehresman, Jelissa Rozendaal, Shilo Cunningham and Carson Fisk.

Fisk and McKinley Conover pitched for the Hawks.

The Hawk boys scored three runs in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie, but West Marshall plated five runs in its half of the frame. The Trojans added two runs in the fourth then held the Hawks to two runs in the sixth for a 7-5 win.

Dylan Rozenboom hit two singles, scored two runs and had an RBI. Caden Dunsbergen, Tyler Van Zante, Kobe Fisk and Noah Engle had a single apiece.

Rylan James took the pitching loss, going 3 1/3 innings and allowing five runs on six hits and two walks. James struck out two. Fisk pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks and striking out three.

Lynnville-Sully’s boys (9-5) and the girls (10-9) play at home in Sully Wednesday. The Hawks teams play at 6 p.m. against English Valleys in South Iowa Cedar League games.
