Steven Aldrich

Steven Aldrich, 74, of rural Newton, died Saturday, June 11, 2016, at his home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16 at the Newton Church of the Way. The family will greet friends following the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials in Steven’s name to be used to support his love for the outdoors may be left at the church during the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Steve, the son of Charles Irvin and June Evelyn (Talbert) Aldrich, was born Dec. 31, 1941, in Alleman. He grew up in that same area and graduated from Ballard High School in Cambridge. On Nov. 25, 1962, Steven was united in marriage with Marilyn Fry in Colo. In 1966, Steve took a job at the Maytag Company in Newton, and the couple made their home in Newton. He worked for Maytag for 28 years, retiring in 1994. Steve was a member of the UAW Local 997, past member of the Izaak Walton League and past member and president of the Moose Lodge, during the time the new building was built at its current location. Steven enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and mushroom hunting. He also liked to go to the Farmers’ Market and the Iowa State Fair. During his years at Maytag, Steve was a member of the Maytag slow pitch softball team.

Steve is survived by his wife, Marilyn Aldrich of rural Newton; three daughters, Kimberly Rogers, Kelli Aldrich (Justin Altemeier) and Kari (Eric) Dannels, all of Newton; three grandchildren, Megan Rogers of Monroe, Tiffany Rogers of Des Moines and Christyn Dannels of Newton; four sisters, Susan Cerretti (Frank Whitten) of Colo, Karen (Denny) Harrelson of Cambridge, Bonny (Wayne) Dulaney of Nevada and Robin Blue of Marshalltown; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins including Judi and Larry Maguire of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Charles Irvin Aldrich, Jr., Christopher “Booker” Aldrich, Robert Aldrich, Jim Aldrich, Kevin “Tobar” Aldrich, Hal Thomas Aldrich and Elaine Charlet; son-in-law, Robert Rogers; and two nephews, Casey Aldrich and Mike Charlet.
