Coy Corrine Garton

Coy Corrine Garton, 101, of Baxter, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016, at Baxter Care Center surrounded by her loving daughters. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 at the church. Burial will follow in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Coy was born to Lloyd and Bertha (Dent) Crawford in Humeston, Feb. 5, 1915. She attended Corydon High School and graduated in 1932. Following school she married Clair Garton April 9, 1934, in Bethany Mo. In 1936, the couple relocated to Baxter, where they raised their family. Coy worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Kenneth McKenzie and Boyd Nichol Funeral Home, a bookkeeper for Baxter Grain and Coal, and was the Baxter City Clerk, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Coy enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, sitting on her front porch and making crafts out of plastic canvas.

Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children, Norma Jean Richeson, Karen (Dean) Flora and Gerri Garton; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Coy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Doug; son-in-law, Stanley Richeson; brother, Dwight Crawford; sisters, Ada DeJong, Bernice Greene, Jessie Pollock and Florence Butler; granddaughter, Alice Andrews; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Bestell; and great-grandson, Lincoln Garton.

Fredregill Family Funeral Home in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Coy and her family.
