C-M bounces back against Tri-County

THORNBURG — Colfax-Mingo’s softball team moved into the top five in Class 1A in doubles Thursday.

The Tigerhawks cranked out six doubles against Tri-County, and sophomore Rhiannon Haley blasted her fourth home run of the season.

Haley’s fourth homer puts her in a tie for fourth in 1A this season. The Tigerhawks have 10 home runs as a team, which ranks second only to Calamus-Wheatland (15) in 1A. They also have 28 doubles, which ranks in a tie for fifth.

Freshman Colbee Cunningham gave Colfax-Mingo an early lead with an RBI single in the first. Tri-County tied the game in the bottom of the first, but another RBI single by Cunningham put the Tigerhawks up 2-1 in the third.

Tri-County (4-5 overall, 3-5 in the SICL) plated three runs in the third to take a 4-2 lead. The Tigerhawks answered by scoring four in the fourth and five in the fifth to win easily.

In the fourth, freshman Reghan Robinette walked, freshman Braedynn Rawlins singled and sophomore Ries Wilson collected an RBI double.

In the five-run fifth, the inning started with a walk by freshman Chelsea Russell. Robinette hit an RBI double, Rawlins laced an RBI double and then junior Amy Russell plated a run on a sacrifice fly.

Rhiannon Haley’s home run was a two-run shot that finalized the Tigerhawks’ scoring in the game.
