Four home runs not enough for Mustang softball

NEVADA — The Prairie City-Monroe softball team blasted four home runs Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough during a Heart of Iowa Conference matchup with Nevada.

The Cubs claimed their second win of the season following a 12-11 walk-off win.

Junior Kayla Jennings took the loss in the circle. Offensively, Jennings had two hits, including her first home run of the season, and had two RBIs.

Juniors Abby Waddell, Jayci Vos and Brooke Nicholson all went 2-for-4 with a home run. It was Vos’ third blast of the season, which puts her into a tie for ninth in Class 3A.

Junior Courtney Bridges also had two hits at the plate.

The Mustangs dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the HOIC. Nevada is now 2-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

PCM hosts Gilbert at 7 p.m. Friday. The Mustangs play in the Eddvyville-Blakesburg-Fremont tournament on Saturday.
