Rockets shut down Mustangs’ offense

EDDYVILLE — Prairie City-Monroe senior Gunnar Davis threw a complete-game on the mound Tuesday night, but the Mustang offense was held to five hits during a 4-0 loss to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Davis struck out six, walked none and allowed three earned runs on six hits in the loss.

Junior Braden Phifer had two of the Mustangs’ five hits at the plate. One of those hits was a double.

Senior Tyler Foster, sophomore Noah Henkenius and junior Ethan Thomas had the other three hits. Henkenius’ hit was a double.

The Mustangs stole two bases. Those were swiped by Thomas and freshman Brayton Van Dyke.

The loss dropped PCM to 4-7 on the season. It was the Mustangs’ fifth straight loss and the seventh loss in the last eight games.

PCM plays at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nevada. The Mustangs return home at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Gilbert.
