Colfax-Mingo plates 22 runs, sweeps Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — Colfax-Mingo’s 2015 season began with 12 straight losses. The Tigerhawks won five games in all.

One year later and the Tigerhawks are making progress.

Colfax-Mingo improved to 3-2 on the season Wednesday with a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader sweep over Montezuma.

Behind a complete-game, 10 strikeout performance from freshman Zarek Hill, the Tigerhawks won the opener, 6-3. They broke out the brooms and recorded the sweep in game two, 16-6.

Hill won his first game of the season after allowing three earned runs in the opener. The offense had nine hits with Jimmy Camp, Adam Teed and Wyatt Owens all recording two hits apiece. Camp also scored twice.

In the nightcap, the Tigerhawks cranked out 16 hits.

Sophomore Jarod Nichols doubled twice and drove in six runs, while senior Jacob Buehrer had two hits, three runs and three RBIs. Teed had three hits and scored twice.

On the mound, Teed improved to 2-0 on the year. He allowed six runs — one earned run — in 3 2/3 innings pitched. He fanned three batters.

Sophomore Misha Seebeck tossed 1 1/3 innings in relief and struck out four.

Colfax-Mingo (3-2 overall, 3-2 in the SICL) host North Mahaska at 6 p.m. Friday and then host a tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday
