Young Hawk softball team wins in SICL, loses tourney games

SULLY — Lynnville-Sully’s softball team picked up its second straight win in South Iowa Cedar League play Friday night at home. The Hawks outlasted visiting North Mahaska, 8-7.

On Saturday in a three-team tournament at home, the Hawks lost twice — 4-2 to North Polk and 6-3 to Ballard. North Polk decked Ballard, 11-1, to go 2-0 on the day.

In Friday’s conference victory, Brenna Lanser had two hits — two two-run home runs — to help the Hawks secure their second win in SICL play after an opening season loss. Lynnville-Sully is 2-1 in SICL play.

The Hawks had to rally late, scoring the go ahead run in the bottom of the sixth after North Mahaska had come back to score three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. It was a 7-7 tie and the Hawks pushed across the go-ahead run.

Kasiah Ehreman went 3-for-4 at the plate with three stolen bases and an RBI. Haley James had two stolen bases and a single. Kristen Van Der Wilt, Libbie Vos and Mallory Loftus each had a single.

Carson Fisk, Loftus and McKinley Conover combined for the pitching duties for Lynnville-Sully. Fisk got the win, working four innings.

In the its own tournament, Lynnville-Sully found itself down 2-1 after two innings in Saturday’s game against North Polk. The Hawks tied it up with a run in the third inning. North Polk drove in two runs in the fourth to gain a 4-2 lead, which would be the final score.

Fisk went the distance of five innings in the game with North Polk, giving up six hits and four walks. She struck out one.

Makenzy Rozendaal was 3-for-3 with three base hits and one RBI. Ehresman and Jelissa Rozendaal each were 2-for-3 with two singles. Lanser and Conover had a single apiece.

Ballard got out quick against Lynnville-Sully with single runs in each of the first two innings.In the fourth inning, the Hawks score three runs, but the Bombers put four more on the scoreboard for the 6-3 win.

Conover pitched three innings for the Hawks, giving up five runs on five hits and one walk and striking out one. Fisk had one inning of work, allowing one run on one hit and one walk.

Shelby Foster was 2-for-2 with two singles for Lynnville-Sully. Hitting a single each were Ehresman, Fisk, Makenzy Rozendaal, Jelissa Rozendaal and James.

Lynnville-Sully (2-3) hosts BGM in SICL play at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
