Mustang baseball stays unbeaten, routs Hawks

JEWELL — For the third time this season, the Prairie City-Monroe baseball team played from behind.

That didn’t deter the Mustangs though as PCM cranked out 16 hits, stole 10 bases and put up three crooked numbers in a 16-2, five-inning victory over South Hamilton in Heart of Iowa Conference play.

South Hamilton led 2-0 after one inning against PCM ace pitcher Austin Brown. The Mustangs rallied with a six-run second, a three-run third and a seven-run fourth.

Brown threw all five innings and allowed two runs on two hits while striking out seven and walking two.

Brown, Sheldon Speers and Noah Henkenius all had three hits at the plate. Speers added three runs, five RBIs and a stolen base, while Henkenius scored three runs, stole two bases and drove in two runs. Brown also had two RBIs.

Braden Phifer, Noah Clark and Tyler Foster all had two hits. Clark stole five bases, Foster scored twice, had two steals and drove in two runs and Phifer scored two runs, had one RBI and walked once.

PCM improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in HOIC play. The Mustangs host Class 2A No. 8 Roland-Story at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
