Larry Wayne “Percy” Simmons, 74, of Newton, formerly of Knoxville and Pella areas, died Monday, May 17, 2016, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Larry deeded his body to the anatomy department of the University of Iowa and also donated his corneas to the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.

A celebration of life gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 29 at the VFW John Myers Post, 413 Lincoln St. in Knoxville. Memorials in Larry’s name may be left at the celebration of life gathering or may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, 1115 E. 19th St. N., Newton, Iowa 50208. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add Attn: Simmons Family on the envelope.

Those left to honor and cherish Larry’s memory are his children, Kimberly (Shawn) Gressley of Newton and her children, Ben (René), Shelby and Zach, and her grandchildren, Larry’s great-grandchildren, Haley, Hanah, Carter and Emberlen; Kirk Simmons of Winterset and his children, Tyler and Cody and his grandchildren, Percy’s great-grandchild, Skylyn; Kent (Courtney) Simmons of Urbandale and his children, Brewer, Cash, Boden and Walker; sister, Dixie Feagins of Knoxville; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lela Wensel; brother-in-law, Charles Feagins; and his favorite aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Phillip Simmons.

The Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is assisting the family with the arrangements.
