Ardith L. Burns, 88, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Madrid Home in Madrid. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28 at Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to HCI Hospice or The Alzheimer’s Association.

Ardith Louise (Solinger) Burns (along with her twin brother, Ardin) was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Afton, to her parents Everett and Opal (Ball) Solinger. Ardith attended school in Afton and graduated from Afton High School in 1945. She married Ralph Burns Jan. 23, 1946, and over the next 10 years, welcomed into their home five children, Joyce, Terry, Pam, John and Tom.

Ardith and the family spent many years on the farm in Mingo, where all five children graduated from Mingo High School. In 1975, Ardith and Ralph moved to a farm in Milan, Mo., and later to a farm in Pollock, Mo. Her husband Ralph passed away June 17, 1996, and since then Ardith had lived in Unionville, Mo., Newton and recently Story County. Ardith was a homemaker and loved dancing, gardening and playing cards and board games with her grandchildren.

Ardith is survived by her children, Joyce (Larry) Pohlman, Terry (Bridget) Burns, John (Judy) Burns and Thomas (Bert) Burns; her twin brother, Ardin Solinger; brother, Leonard Solinger; and two sisters, Elaine Carlson and Jeneane Larimer; along with 14 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph in 1996; daughter, Pamela Pettis; parents, Everett and Opal Solinger; and a sister, Lorraine Solinger.
