Area volunteers will be making their annual Memorial Day ceremonial presentations again this year. Several volunteer clean-up or maintenance efforts are being made this month, including this past weekend’s cleaning out of the flag holders and this Saturday’s 8 a.m. flag placements.

• Wittemberg Church Cemetery, E. Eighth St. N. near N. 59th Ave. E., north of Newton, 9 a.m.
A Veterans Color Guard will conduct an opening, followed by a presentation by Dr. Janet Secor of Fort Dodge, a descendant of local settlers, entitled “Musings on a Wittemberg Memorial Day.” Limited seating will be available, so lawn chairs are encouraged. In case of rain, a sign will be posted at the cemetery directing people to an indoor site.
