Hy-Vee Stores, Inc. has recalled six trail mix products due to possible Listeria contamination.

The products include Hy-Vee Caramel Cashew Honey Crunch Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Dark Chocolate Cranberry Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix, Hy-Vee Mountain Trail Mix To Go, Hy-Vee Berry Trail Mix and Hy-Vee Santa Fe Trail Mix.

The caramel cashew honey crunch trail mix was sold in 24 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450040586, the dark chocolate cranberry trail mix was sold in 24 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450041354, the mountain trail mix was sold in 26 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450016796, the mountain trail mix to go was sold in 1.75 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450040739, the berry trail mix was sold in 7 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450040593 and the Santa Fe trail mix was sold in 6.5 oz. bags with the UPC number 75450041101.

All products have a “use by” date of April 15, 2017, or earlier. These products were sold at Hy-Vee stores in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this product.

The potential for contamination was discovered after Hy-Vee's supplier, SunOpta, announced a recall of specific lots of sunflower kernels due to the potential for Listeria. The recall was initially limited to sunflower kernel products produced at SunOpta's Crookston, Minn. facility but was recently expanded to all products produced at the facility between Feb. 20 and April 20.

Store officials at the Newton Hy-Vee said all items that fall within the recall have been pulled from his store's inventory.

Listeria contamination can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, and subsequent infections can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Symptoms can include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

This is the third high-profile Listeria recall this year involving products sold by Hy-Vee. On May 13, the company recalled two frozen Hy-Vee brand fried rice products for possible contamination and in February, Maytag Dairy Farms recalled all of its blue cheese products.

Customers who purchased this product should discard it or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact Hy-Vee Customer Care representatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-772-4098.
